“Every match is tense, but the final of UEFA Euro 2020, where I successfully led the Italy national team as captain, was the most nerve-wracking. “I think the episode with Suarez still stands out. I believe his fighting spirit and determination made him who he is today. I highly respect his competitive nature as a fellow player.”

“Young players have their whole lives ahead of them. Just playing football is not enough; balancing sports and studies is essential for growth. Through passionate dedication to football and life learning, I hope each player will expand their vision and make better decisions moving forward.”
6. What hobbies do you have outside of football?
“I place high value on academics, having earned degrees in economics from the University of Torino and an MBA in football management. After retiring, I don’t plan to dedicate myself to coaching but would like to work in management, at Juventus, where I’ve spent half of my life.”
7. After deciding to retire from professional football as one of the most outstanding and respected defenders in history, do you have plans for the future?
“Football has been the most beautiful and intense journey of my life. I didn’t want to end my career playing below my level, so I’m happy to leave at such a high level. Now, I’m ready to start a new chapter and face new challenges, writing the next exciting and meaningful page of my life.”
8. Any words for the fans who supported your journey?
“Thank you for being my source of energy throughout my long career. While I retire as a football player, there’s still so much I want to do. I would appreciate it if you continue to support me as I embark on the second act of my life.”
9. How do you recharge during your rest periods?
“Rest is extremely important for athletes. Sleep is one of the most crucial factors in improving performance, and resting well during downtime is necessary to be ready for the next match. Without proper rest, fatigue builds up, and it affects performance, leading to issues like weakened immunity. I make sure to recover my condition quickly by getting enough sleep.”
